About Rylee

An Ojibwe multi-disciplinary artivist residing in Sudbury, ON, with roots in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory. Besides having over 6 years of Tarot reading, her experience spans areas such as event organization, workshop facilitation, permaculture gardening, wilderness skills, performance and mixed-media arts, and beyond.

Graduating in 2023 from Marymount Academy, with honours and a non-profit SHSM (Specialist High School Major) certification, Rylee had made many strides throughout her high school career. She began at MMA for grade 8 in 2019, creating a group and red dress doll campaign, with the assistance of her teacher Julia Chalut, to spread awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. This group and workshop was shared at Laurentian University's MMIWG awareness day, and is now home for the finished red dress dolls. Following proposed major budget cuts to education from the Ford Government, Rylee started organizing using #StudentsSayNo materials and conversing with peers, staff, and others about how to best do the protest. Her protest had over 2/3 of students walkout during 4th period, with union leaders and media present. Because of her activist work throughout eighth grade, her teachers had come together to create the (Strong Woman) Indigenous Leadership Award in honour of her, and is annually bestowed to an Indigenous leader graduating 8th grade.

Pursuing her non-profit SHSM, Rylee reached out to Dr. Taima Moeke-Pickering, a full professor at Laurentian University. There she was able to learn more about Moeke-Pickering's work and perform a presentation in one of her classes about a chapter in her book.

How did you find out about Tarot?
   At first I was a sceptic. My initial introduction to Tarot was through my mother, she would play Sagittarius Tarot video readings off of YouTube and I would be listening with little faith. It sounded too woo-woo and scheme-y, so I didn’t take it seriously. It wasn’t until I had a friend over with boy problems, that I decided to use the cards for fun and to see if they’d actually work.

Why did you get into Tarot?
   The accuracy and stimulation it brought me was too intense to ignore, I felt like I had found gold. Learning more about the history, creativity, and theory around it made me want to explore it with others. I started by reading for friends and family, our bonds deepened and we found much fun in the process. It was after multiple amazing readings and life-altering experiences, that I decided to read Tarot professionally. NO regrets!

What do you love about reading Tarot?
    The change it offers. Key word ‘offers’. Tarot has never been a solution, but the puzzle pieces to a bigger picture of life that reveals a myriad of paths and ‘solutions’. That is part of the beauty and appeal of Tarot, it’s duality and complexity. How one Reader could interpret a spread or card, could be completely opposite of another, and yet they both connect in ways only a seeker of Truth could find. The mix of symbolism, collective understandings, and theology behind every card and how they connect, creates such a profoundly real and artistic experience, it’s hard not to love it. Every reading I have done has taught me something, so much so that I could not imagine who I would be without them. 

   The way my Querents eyes light up, shoulders soften, mouths drop, and energy elates makes every effort in this journey worth it. It is a magical and special position to hold, as a Tarot Reader, being responsible for the channelling and connecting of messages for my Querent. I am both deeply honoured and humbled.
